Quick start

From zero to a live menu-bar gauge in about five minutes.

1. Install

Tap the cask and install with Homebrew — the fastest path:

bash
brew tap mangiapanejohn-dev/tapbrew install --cask quotalens

Prefer another route? See all install options on the download page.

2. Get a Claude token

In a terminal, run claude setup-token for the account you want to track, then copy the token it prints:

bash
claude setup-token

Each account uses its own token. A pasted token can't auto-renew, so you'll re-paste when one eventually expires (QuotaLens notifies you).

3. Add the account

In QuotaLens:

  1. 1Click the menu-bar gauge, then the gear icon.
  2. 2Open Sources → Add Claude account.
  3. 3Give it a name (e.g. Pro, Max 5x) and paste the token.

4. Codex needs nothing

Codex requires no setup — QuotaLens reads ~/.codex/sessions automatically, with no network call. As soon as Codex has written a session, its card appears.

That's it

The menu bar now shows a ring and percentage of your highest current usage. Click it for per-source cards with the authoritative 5h / 7d limits, and open the statistics window for token, cost, and cache history.
